Oak

Quercus robur

Young bark; acorn as food once leached · cooling · astringent

The strength tree — a world lives on one oak, and the bark draws.

In the mouth

How it tastes

Harsh tannin, wood, a binding cup. A wash more than a beverage.

Traditional use

Young bark as a strong astringent wash and a short tea for a loose bowel or a raw mouth. Acorn, leached of tannin, was food. The tree itself is the teaching: roots, trunk, crown, and everyone who eats there.

In the cup

A small piece of dried young bark, decocted 10 minutes, for an astringent cup or cooled wash. Never a daily mug.

Story

Strength, morale, resistance, knowledge. A whole forest can live on one oak — fungus at the root, bird in the branch, mistletoe in the crown, acorn for everyone who walks.

Blood

Sour blood · sour

Sour is cooling and astringent. It draws and binds, thickens thin blood, starts saliva, and hydrates even as it tightens. Sour plants carry the antioxidants of fruit. They move mucous and support the lungs — large doses irritate. Lemon-family plants show up again and again in sinus cups.

The promise

A careful hand

A pinch or a rare pot — not a daily habit.

Very tannic. Short and small. Acorns are not eaten raw. Do not strip living bark from a standing tree — use fallen or coppiced wood from a trusted cut.
